Vicki Couchman for The Times
I am the crime editor for The Times where I cover the spectrum of crime and policing, from breaking news and exclusive interviews to data-led investigations and visual storytelling. I was highly commended as specialist journalist of the year at the 2025 Press Awards, and a finalist for crime and legal journalism at the 2025 British Journalism Awards.
Before joining The Times in 2022, I worked at The i Paper and was shortlisted for the Outstanding Journalism prize at the Criminal Justice Alliance Media Awards.
Previously, I worked at PA Media, and The Sun where I joined its two-year graduate training scheme and was later promoted to a health reporter. As a freelance reporter my stories have been published in the Sunday Mirror, the Guardian, VICE and FADER.
I started in journalism at the South London Press, The Voice and the Camden New Journal; I door-knocked my way around inner-London, reported from courts, crime scenes, community events and interviewed scores of local heroes. It was the best training.
